Ludacris Compares Rum Cay, Bahamas to Heaven

On last night’s “Jay Leno Show,” hip-hop superstar Ludacris was asked, “Where’s your favorite place to chill out?”

“Man, Rum Cay, Bahamas…Trust me. It’s like - it’s like heaven. Trust me on that. Rum Cay, Bahamas. A place you have to go very soon.

Lenny Loves The Bahamas!

kravitzencounter091019_2501

This week’s New York Magazine features an interview with Lenny Kravitz, who owns a house in the Out Islands on the beautiful island of Eleuthera: http://nymag.com/news/intelligencer/encounter/59892/

From New York magazine: “Twenty years after he “Let Love Rule,” a certain level of public display is expected of him. Maybe he just expects it of himself. “Yeah, my shirt’ll come off sometimes,” he admits. “Or if I’m in the Bahamas,” the ancestral home of his late mother, The Jeffersons actress Roxie Roker-”I don’t wear much clothes at all. I’ll take two jeans and five T-shirts down there. If I’m hanging out on the beach, I could wear nothing.”

The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism doesn’t recommend going undressed on the beach but does recommend these hot spots on Eleuthera…
Elvina’s: a local haunt where visitors, locals - and occasionally celebrities - go to relax. Tuesday and Friday night jam sessions have been known to draw the likes of Chris Robinson from the Black Crowes and Lenny Kravitz, himself.

Tippy’s: a casual beach bar and restaurant at the Pineapple Fields Hotel, where the blackboard menu with the freshest catch is constantly changing. Go on the weekends for live music to accompany an ice-cold “Tippy’s Sunrise” drink. Rooms at Pineapple Fields start at $150/night in the off-season, $200/night during high season (www.pineapplefields.com).

New Developments

A Massive Cruise Ship, New Resorts and the First Island-Inclusive Vacation Experience Arrive in The Islands Of The Bahamas

Sandals Settles at Former Four Seasons, Oasis of the Seas Heads to Nassau and Hotels from $79

NASSAU, The Bahamas - Oct. 6, 2009 - While some things in The Islands Of The Bahamas never change - sandy beaches, Junkanoo, sorbet-colored shirts - the destination is fast-evolving and transforming the way consumers travel in the tropics. From the world’s first island-inclusive vacation experience to the world’s largest cruise ship, The Bahamas is focused on setting the table for a new flock of travelers and maintaining its spot as the #1 destination in the Caribbean for pampering.

NASSAU/PARADISE ISLAND

Landing on Nassau - Beginning Dec. 17, 2009, AirTran Airways will offer nonstop flights from Atlanta, Baltimore/Washington, and Orlando, Fla., and connecting service from more than 40 other cities. The low-fare carrier, and only major airline with Wi-Fi on every flight, will fly from Atlanta to Nassau, Bahamas, daily, and offer multiple nonstop flights weekly from Orlando, Fla. and Baltimore/Washington. To book a flight, visit www.airtran.com.

Nassau from $79 per night - This fall, hotels and resorts throughout Nassau/Paradise Island are offering travelers special deals starting as little as $79. Rates are based on double occupancy, per night. For participating hotels and resorts, visit www.bahamas.com/offers.

“Ask Me” Tourism Ambassadors - Knowledgeable and helpful tourism ambassadors have been dispatched into the streets of downtown Nassau to provide personal attention in identifying attractions and addressing questions from visitors. On Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays - peak tourism days in Nassau due to cruise ship arrivals - tourism ambassadors serve as a resource for travelers pointing them in the right direction for cultural attractions, from the Junkanoo Museum to Parliament Square or a waterside restaurant offering freshly made conch fritters and more. All ambassadors can be identified by bright green vests marked “Ask Me.”

Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas - Debuting December 2009 as the world’s largest and most revolutionary cruise ship, Oasis of the Seas will span 16 decks, encompass 225,282 gross registered tons (GRT), carry 5,400 guests at double occupancy, and feature 2,700 staterooms. To accommodate Oasis of the Seas and other large cruise ships, harbour improvements are being made around Nassau. A land reclamation project is also taking place as part of the harbour improvement, which will result in an extended pedestrian promenade.

GRAND BAHAMA ISLAND

Club Grand Bahama - Launched in July 2009, Club Grand Bahama, the first island-inclusive vacation experience, has broken the mold of the traditional, individual resort all-inclusive vacation. Club Grand Bahama guests select accommodations at one of five resorts, including the beachfront Radisson Our Lucaya Resort or charming harborside Pelican Bay at Lucaya Hotel, and receive roundtrip airport transfers, and shuttle bus service to as many as 50 activities, including golf, scuba diving, fishing and adventure tours. Club Grand Bahama vacations also include a choice of up to 21 dining venues for breakfast and dinner each day, plus special beach parties, casino gaming and shopping discounts. Rates start at $88 per person per night, excluding tax and resort fees. For information or to book a Club Grand Bahama vacation, visit www.clubgrandbahama.com or call 1-800-8-Bahamas.

THE OUT ISLANDS

Sandals Emerald Bay Golf Resort and SPA - Opening Jan. 22, 2010 along a one-mile stretch of white sand beach, the all-inclusive Sandals Emerald Bay will bring “grand estate”-style vacationing to the island of Great Exuma. Formerly a Four Seasons, the 500-acre resort will offer luxury accommodations ranging from beachfront villas to charming bay houses, meals daily, activities, airport transfers and wedding services. Sandals guests can tee-off on the 18-hole Greg Norman-designed championship golf course; dock at the Emerald Bay Marina by Sandals, the first-ever marina for any Sandals Resort; or relax in the full-service Red Lane Spa. Approximately 13,000 square feet of flexible indoor and outdoor meeting space is available, and groups or individuals can enjoy favorite Exuma pastimes such as boating, kite surfing and snorkeling in the Exuma and Land Sea Park. To book special introductory rates of 50% off stays of three or more nights, visit www.sandals.com or call 1-888-Sandals.

Tiamo Resort - Following an extensive renovation, Tiamo Resort, the much-loved eco-retreat on South Andros island, will reopen on Nov. 20th, unveiling a new spa and rooming option - The Cool Cottages. Guests of Tiamo will be able to select from its celebrated eco-chic Island Breeze cottages or book a fully air-conditioned Cool Cottage. Regardless of choice, all feature elegant stone and reclaimed glass bathrooms with walk-in showers; oceanviews; open-plan living spaces; and large wrap-around terraces. Tiamo’s new fully-equipped gym and glass spa will provide a welcome opportunity to relax, unwind and recharge after the rigors of sunbathing, sailing, snorkeling, diving, fishing or picnicking on a secluded cove. Rates start at $375 per night, based on double occupancy, and include all meals, airport transfers, canoeing, snorkeling trips, picnics and sailing. Visit www.tiamoresort.com.

Landing on Long Island and The Abacos - Starting Nov. 18, Ft. Lauderdale-based Locair, an air taxi airline, will offer service between South Florida and Tampa, Fla. to The Abacos and Long Island, and flights from St. Petersburg/Clearwater International Airport to The Abacos. To celebrate its arrival, Locair is offering introductory fares of $139 each way from Ft. Lauderdale to Abaco, $189 from Tampa, Fla. to Abaco and Ft. Lauderdale to Long Island. Bahamas Visitors Encouraged to “Ask Me”

The Islands Of The Bahamas Launches Visitor Assistance Program in Nassau

“Hospitality has always been a hallmark of The Islands Of The Bahamas, and the Ministry of Tourism wanted to take it a step further by inviting our guests to engage in a conversation and seek advice from us,” explained Vernice Walkine, director-general of the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism. “The tourism ambassador program also provides an opportunity to learn about our visitors - what are they most interested in seeing and experiencing and how can we better educate travelers on the attractions available in Nassau prior to arrival.”

BAHAMAS AVIATION DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES BAHAMAS GETAWAY FBO’S

The Islands of The Bahamas Aviation Department have been working with Florida FBO’s (Fixed Base Operations) for many years, and has recently launched The Bahamas Gateway FBO’s with several operations strategically located throughout South Florida, to partner with them in making it increasingly easier for Private Pilots to get travel procedural information to fly to and from the various Bahama Islands.

The announcement was made on behalf of the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation, by the Ministry’s Chief Aviation Specialist, Mr. Gregg Rolle.  It was noted that the chosen FBO’s were selected with the targeted aim  to line up the needs of the Private Pilot with what’s available in the destination and make the trip to The Bahamas as seamless as possible.

A select four has been identified at this time, as Bahamas Gateway FBO’s who have been trained by the Bahamas Tourist Office staff on all facets of U.S. and Bahamas requirements of aircrafts leaving/arriving the U.S.  mainland; it is hoped, however, that the number will grow.  The four FBO’s identified include:

Opa Locka Airport – Miami Executive Aviation
Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport – Banyan Air Service
Stuart/Palm Beach Airport – Galaxy Aviation of Palm Beach
St. Lucie International Airport – Air Center/Fort Pierce

The selected FBO’s have been classed as Bahamas Gateways and are equipped to provide Customs and Immigration information as well as supplies and even up-to-the minute information on the Bahamas.  The small airports serve as a one-stop shop for Private Pilots, as well as general aviation traffic both private and charter.

“The FBOs like Banyan have shown much interest in working with The Islands of the Bahamas,” Mr. Rolle, asserted.  He said that because of this expressed interest, over the years, the Bahamas Aviation Department has conducted training of the staff as well as included FBO’s in their marketing activities such as trade shows and promotional ventures.

“Our Bahamas preferred FBOs have proven to be a great resource for us,” Mr. Rolle  boasted, and  enlarged that more importantly, the co-op initiatives with the Bahamas’ key FBO’s,  such as the educational seminars and trade shows, gives additional quality of service to the FBO’s valued customers.  He said further that the country’s key FBO’s proves to be of tremendous assistance to Private Pilots leaving the U.S. for the Bahamas, and have been known to assist them beyond the U.S. even into The Islands.

Although pilots can choose the FBO of their choice, they are  encouraged  when flying into The Bahamas to stop at one of The Bahamas Gateway FBO’s to ensure that the pilot and aircraft have all the Information and Procedures  needed about The Bahamas for a Safe and Fun flight….and of course, “It’s Better In The Bahamas.”
